About Us
Activity Centers are active all over New Brunswick and have been serving our members for over 15 years. In all there are 27 Activity Centers across New Brunswick and each has it's own, local, volunteer, Board of Directors. This means each center is somewhat unique; because it takes on the local flavour and sensibilities of the people and the community it serves.
While it is true that each center is unique in it's style, it is also true each center is alike in our collective goal of helping our members become their best selves - through better mental health.

Who We Are |
The Activity Centers are connected though the New Brunswick Mental Health Activity Center Association. We meet to coordinate various activities and to compose and update the associations policies. Each Center has agreed to use these policies as a starting point for how a center operates. The Association is made up of the directors of the centers through out the province.

Our History |
In the early 1990's it became apparent that people in New Brunswick who have a lived with or through mental illness lacked a voice that was wholly their own. Caring citizens, along with Mental health advocates and activists asked the government for funds to create a network of local peer support organizations. Their vision was to offer real and meaningful help to each other in an independent manner. It was their hope that the lessons each person had gained living with and through mental illness could benefit others facing similar challenges.
I took many years of hard and determined work to forge these connections throughout the province. Now, more than twenty years later, there are Activity Centers thriving across the province! Each is run by a local board which is comprised primarily of people who identify themselves as having (currently, or at some time in the past) a mental illness. We all follow the same guidelines but each Center is a reflection of it's own community's needs and hopes. |
