The Activity Centers’ provincial Jamboree of the Activity Centers took place for the first time in 1996. This activity is a three day camping event in different areas of New Brunswick.
Start-up funds for this annual event are provided by Mental Health Services Division.
The goals of this Jamboree are to help participants realize that they are not alone and to give him or her a sense of belonging. This is accomplished by recreational activities, group discussions and traveling excursion outside our area of residence.
During those three days, focus groups will be held where we will solicit people’s opinions on matters regarding their centers and mental health services offered in their respective regions. Recreational activities are very important during this Jamboree such as games, BBQ and touring local attractions.
Note the following guidelines:
1) Each activity center is responsible to bring their own tent, sleeping bags, toiletries and dinner for the first day. Activity centers are to bring a prize of $1.00 for each participant. Vehicle fuel cost is not provided by the Jamboree but the reimbursement of a rental van is.
2) Each activity center is responsible to cover the cost of the director’s registration fee to attend the Jamboree.
3) Registration fees will vary from year to year. This fee will help cover in part some of the cost to hold this event.
4) If an activity centre wishes to attend the Jamboree for one day or for a specific activity there will be a cost, and it is up to the hosting center to accept or refuse the request - the request will have to be made in advance so the hosting center can adjust their budget accordingly.
5) The Jamboree host will collect all registration fees and record mileage on Friday. Reimbursement for travel expenses will be provided on Sunday, prior to departure.
6) If for whatever reason, a centre must leave before the ending of the Jamboree – a submission explaining this must be provided to the Provincial Jamboree Committee (PJC). The PJC will have the final decision, whether or not the reasons are justified for the purpose of reimbursement.
